The escalator backfires…crushing and bouncing.

On the 8th, 14 passengers were injured when the upbound escalator at Exit 2 of Suna Station on the Bundang Line of the subway in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si토토사이트, Gyeonggi-do, reversed during rush hour.

According to the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, at 8:19 a.m., the upbound escalator at Exit 2 of Suseok Station in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu, reversed course after stopping. As a result of the accident, three passengers were taken to the hospital, and 11 people went home after receiving treatment for relatively minor injuries.

The escalator in question was halfway to the ground level and was operating normally when it suddenly stopped and was pushed backwards. The escalator is inspected every month, and last month’s inspection reportedly showed no abnormalities.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Department and the Korea Elevator Safety Agency plan to investigate the exact cause of the accident by interviewing witnesses and analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the accident site. The police believe that the accident was caused by a mechanical defect and will also conduct a forensic examination of the scene.

Meanwhile, on July 18, 2013, at 8:30 p.m., a reverse running accident occurred on the upbound escalator of Exit 4 of Yatap Station on the Bundang Line, causing 39 citizens who were on their way home from work to suffer serious injuries ranging from 3 to 12 weeks. The prosecution and police investigation revealed that the direct cause of the accident was that the pinion gear connecting the reducer and motor was replaced with a “fake” part during the repair process.
