An accident during a shooting exercise at a military base in Yangju-si안전놀이터, Gyeonggi Province, has left one soldier who had been taken to a hospital dead. Military authorities are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

According to military authorities, at around 12:15 p.m. on the 22nd, an accident occurred at an army unit in Yangju City during a K2 personalized firearms training exercise when Private A, in his 20s, suffered a penetrating laryngeal wound. He was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest immediately after the incident and later died.

Private A reportedly suffered a penetrating wound from a bullet fired from his rifle after being issued live ammunition during the training exercise. In response, the military, police, and other authorities are conducting a general investigation into Private A’s identity and unit life. However, it is reported that nothing unusual has been found so far.

“We express our deepest condolences for the death of the deceased,” said a military official, “We will keep all possibilities open to investigate the cause of the accident and do our best to support the bereaved family.”
